Volume Discounts

In addition to the store-wide discount, an unlimited number of volume discounts can be created and each can apply to a specific category, a custom grouping of products, or a specific product. And each volume discount can have an unlimited number of discount tiers.

Each volume discount has a unique discount tier and is assigned one or more products or a category.

Each volume discount record also has a code field, name field, name2 field and description field. The values in these fields can be optionally displayed in the basket, order contents & product display. Editing of the Basket Contents, Order Contents & Product Display templates is required – see documentation for detailed instructions.

A product can be assigned to multiple volume discounts. In such a case, a store-wide priority can be set for which discount to apply. The priority can be by the greatest discount (lowest price) or by the order of the volume discounts (which can be easily set in the module's admin).

Discounts on Attribute Prices

If the type of discount is set to "Discount Percentage", the volume discount will be applied to the product price and the attribute price(s).

Limiting Discounts to Price Groups

One or more price groups can be assigned to a Volume Discount. Once the price groups are assigned, the volume discount will only be available to customers who are in the assigned price groups - the discount will not be applied to the baskets of other customers. This is very similar to the built-in price group support, with the addition of multiple tiers of pricing.

Types of Volume Discounts

A Volume Discount tier can have one of three discount types:

• Discount Price – replaces regular price
  
  
• Discount Percent – percentage off of regular price
  (will be applied to the product price and the attribute price(s))
  
  
• Discount Amount – fixed amount off of regular price
  

Some Examples of Volume Discounts –

• A volume discount can be created for a specific category. A customer purchases 10 items from that category and receives a $1.00 off each item. Another customer purchases 20 items from that category and receives $2.00 off each item.
  
  
• A volume discount can be created for a grouping of products or for a specific product. A customer purchases an item and it is priced at $12.99. Another customer purchases a quantity of 5 and each item is priced at $9.99. A third customer purchases a quantity of 10 and each item is priced at $7.99.
  
  
• A volume discount tier can apply store wide. A customer purchases 10 items, from throughout the store and receives a 5 percent discount. Another customer purchases 20 items and receives a 10 percent discount.

Examples are provided (see documentation) for customizing the Basket Contents, Order Contents & Product Display templates, so that the regular price, the savings, and the discount prices can be displayed.

Configuration Options

• Active - Convenient method for activating or de-activating module. All other configuration options are preserved.
• Show Products - On Volume Discounts listing admin screen.
• Discount Priority - When a product is in multiple groups/categories, this option determines how the discount is calculated. The priority can be by the greatest discount (lowest price) or by the order of the volume discounts (which can be easily set in the module's admin).
